Dr. Quantum: A User's Guide to Your Universe
by Fred Allen Wolf

"Matter can move backward and forward in time. Objects may be in two places at once. Simply looking at an event can alter it instantaneously." Quantum physics is an astounding (and mind-boggling) field of science—but can you actually use it to change your life? The answer, teaches Dr. Quantum, is absolutely yes. On A User's Guide to Your Universe, Dr. Quantum—who goes by day as mild-mannered physicist Dr. Fred Alan Wolf—teaches that anyone can understand quantum physics. What's more, it is the most useful, immediate, and relevant kind of science you can learn to profoundly affect your day-to-day life.

Your Mind is a Quantum Engine—Are You Ready to Fire It Up?

The Cosmic Serpent

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
The symbol of the Cosmic Serpent, the snake, is a central theme in your story, and in your research you discover that the snake forms a major part of the symbology across most of the world’s traditions and religions. Why is there such a consistent system of natural symbols in the world? Is the world inherently symbolic?
This is the observation that led me to investigate the cosmic serpent. I found the symbol in shamanism all over the world. Why? That's a good question. My hypothesis is that it is connected to the double helix of DNA inside virtually all living beings. And DNA itself is a symbolic Saussurian code. So, yes, in at least one important way, the living world is inherently symbolic. We are made of living language.

The Big Igloo: TAZ Gateway into other Dimensions?

I picked a pattern of a wheel within a wheel which I found in a first edition of a John Bennett book, a disciple of Gurdjieff. Back then the beam was aimed from the center of the room, with perfect alignment and symmetry, like a light fountain springing upward. Today, Laser Images has moved all beam projections to the side of the dome which destroys this effect. The song started, the wheel within a wheel started rotating, in a bluish purple tuned perfectly to the key Black Sabbath played their song in, sound vibrations per seconds and Angstroms units in unison. Immediately, in the darkness, the sympathetic harmony between the light and sound frequencies grabbed the audience as if by magic. We had waited till the end of a regular show to spring this on a full house. Those who let themselves go, immediately went into a trance, and I'm not going to describe here all the other weird things that followed. Those who didn't go with the flow just thought the show went nuts and started leaving. Sabbath was an acquired taste 30 years ago. Those who stayed, and "got it", experienced something they'd never felt before, the music riding the light, through their eyes, deep into their psyche. All I can say is that evening, people in Hollywood who attended the show and understood, ran back down the Hollywood hills talking technological spiritual revolution.

Arcosanti

In the midst of the Arizona desert in the US stands a half-built town that has attracted architects from around the world for the past 35 years. Arcosanti is an experiment in ecological city design. There are no cars since the space is planned for pedestrians, and there are large, compact living structures built next to huge solar-heated greenhouses where the residents' food is grown. Electricity comes from wind and solar plants, and the water from the nearby river is carefully husbanded. Only 60 to 100 people live there now, well below the 5,000 that Paolo Soleri, the architect who founded Arcosanti, envisions. But since the project launched in 1970, 6,000 architectural students have come to help with the building and learn about its design, and the site attracts 50,000 visitors every year.

Beyond Bohm/Vigier Quantum Mechanics

THE SELF-ORGANIZING POST-QUANTUM NON-RIGID MINDSCAPE.
There is an objective collapse to a single basin of attraction for possible beable paths when external decoherence is screened out for a long enough time. This is the sentient regime of post-quantum mechanics beyond orthodox quantum mechanics. The structure of this basin directly depends on the actual path taken by the attached classical beable e.g. the extended configuration of microtubules in the brain at a given moment of time. This is self-organization with inner-felt experience. This post-Bohmian ontological picture is consistent with the mind-matter models of both Henry Stap and Roger Penrose.

The Physics Chanteuse

The Physics Chanteuse is a cabaret-style musical act produced and performed by physicist and chanteuse Lynda Williams for scientists at conferences and meetings. For each performance Ms. Williams researches the scientific topic and writes custom songs and repartee which are usually performed at the event's banquet. She has performed for scientists all over the world and has been featured in the NY Times, People Magazine and Good Morning America. Ms. Williams also performs her musical science shows for the general public in Cosmic Cabaret, and for teens in schools in Science Rave. The 'greatest hits' of the Physics Chanteuse are now available in her CD, Cosmic Cabaret which can be sampled and purchased at the Scientainment Shop.

Arthur M. Young - The Theory of Process

Bio
ARTHUR MIDDLETON YOUNG (1905 - 1995), inventor of the Bell Helicopter,
cosmologist, philosopher and author of The Reflexive Universe and The Geometry of
Meaning, addresses issues in physics, mathematics, consciousness and evolution.
Author Tom Robbins calls Arthur Young "the greatest theoretical genius since Einstein."

Excerpt from Nested Time
THE THEORY OF PROCESS
(1954-1994)

Both religion and science have a common origin in the search for truth, but have approached this goal differently... these two quite different endeavors tell the same story, reach the same conclusions. The agreement to which I refer is to be found between the ancient myths and the most recent findings of quantum physics...
It is because science became the Scientific Method and ceased to be the search for truth that it lost relevance and, like a time bomb ticking in an airliner, is dangerous because it is cut off from our control, following its own dictates. It is because the institutionalized churches have taken little cognizance of scientific discoveries and have insisted on a literal reading of all sacred writings that they have become irrelevant and have had their traditional teaching dismissed as superstition... Twentieth century humanity has come of age. It is not to be led, but must draw out of itself the wisdom it needs... we must look at what we already have in the earliest and undistorted traditions... [we have] the accumulated wisdom of all ages and of all teachings, which, with the help of the ontology provided by Quantum Physics, we can now sort out and interpret...

We need a new, integrating direction, but we cannot discover an integrating and unitary theory common to science and religion without postulating the unity of all things. In sum, then, our thesis is this: we inhabit a universe, and this implies one universal set of principles or of truth. To discover these principles or truth, we must enlist both religious and scientific inquiry, and, recognizing the variety of expressions of both, be prepared to seek out the unity in its true implication and significance.

...just as the world with its oceans, continents, and nations presents many facets, yet is one body of matter, so does our culture with its religions and sciences present many facets, yet is one body of life. Our task, then is to seek out this unity.

The Laurel & Hardy Theory of Consciouness
by Colin Wilson

"... It seemed to me that the relation between the conscious and the unconscious is more like the relation between Laurel and Hardy in the old movie. Ollie- consciousness- is basically the boss. Stan takes his cues from Ollie. If Ollie looks cheerful, Stan is positively ecstatic. Stan always over-reacts... But the real business of the right [side of the brain] seems to be to add a dimension of meaning to our lives."
"And now it should be possible to grasp the real importance of the left-ego. It is, and is intended to be, the controller. Consider what happens in hypnosis. The subject is apparently reduced to sleep; yet an EEG machine shows that he is awake. What happens, I would suggest is that the hypnotist has put the left brain to sleep, while the right remains awake. (The nature of hypnosis is still not understood; this is my own theory.) An interesting thing now happens. The subject is capable of more remarkable feats in the hypnotic state than when normally awake. The hypnotist might, for example, tell him that he will now lie with his shoulders on one chair and his legs on another, while a strong man will stand on his stomach, yet he will remain as rigid as a board. And, incredibly, the subject does precisely that. This is, of course, the phenomenon that Charcot observed- the amazing powers of that 'other self', when not constrained and undermined by the left brain. Then why can the subject not perform such feats when in his conscious state? Because he doesn't believe he can. When the hypnotist tells the 'other self' to perform some unusual feat, he is the voice of authority, and the other self responds like a well-trained soldier. Its own left-ego lacks that authority; it is manifestly nervous and unsure of itself. If, in fact, the left-ego could somehow generate that authority, the powers it could release might well be described as superhuman."

"Lawrence, then was mistaken. It is not true that head-conscious has become too dominant. It is not dominant enough."

The San Francisco Taiko Dojo

The history of Taiko is interwoven in the fabric of Japanese history. Regarded as sacred since ancient times, the drum was first used to drive away evil spirits and pests harmful to crops. It was believed that by imitating the sound of thunder, the spirit of rain would be forced into action. At harvest time, Taiko was joyfully played in thanks for a bountiful crop. Today, this spiritual aspect of Taiko has faded with the modernization of Japan. What was once an integral part of daily life is now just a festival relic.
However, a cultural renaissance has been taking place in Japan — a rediscovery of native arts. Today, every school child in Japan knows of Taiko and many corporate events feature Taiko drummers. With the dedication of a small number of Taiko masters and enthusiasts, it has been again popularized and is played in festivals throughout the world.

STAR FIRE - The Gold of the Gods

Once the Anunnaki departed Sumeria, Master Craftsmen developed a substitute for Star Fire in the form of a mystical bread made from the alchemical white powder of gold.

The explorers were baffled enough by these finds, but they were further confounded by the discovery of a metallurgist's crucible. Ever since, Egyptologists have argued as to why crucibles would have been necessary in a temple - while at the same time debating a mysterious substance, called mfkzt, which seemed to be related to the crucible and the conical stones and which had dozens of mentions in wall and stelae inscriptions... Another cause of wonderment has been the innumerable inscribed references to 'bread', along with the prominent hieroglyph for 'Light' found in the Shrine of the Kings... What has become apparent, however, is that this powder was seemingly identical to the ancient Mesopotamian fire-stone or shem-an-na - the substance that was made into bread-cakes and used to feed the Light-bodies of the Babylonian Kings and the Pharaohs of Egypt... This, of course, explains the temple inscriptions denoting the importance of bread and light, and this white powder (the shem-an-na) was identified with the sacred manna that Aaron placed in the Ark of the Covenant. In Egypt, the cakes made from this powder were called 'scheffa food', while the Israelites called them 'shewbread'.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

"As early as 1985, researchers at the University of Sheffield found that magnetic fields could activate brain cells. At around the same time, electronics researcher David S. Walonick began creating several different TMS devices, and tested a wide range of extra-low frequency (ELF) signals on subjects. His experiments showed that it's possible to "entrain" brains to certain frequencies -- that is, if you project an 8.6 Hz field onto a waking brain, it will tend to slide into the dreamlike, meditative, "alpha" state. The closer to the "beta" state you start at -- that is, the higher the initial frequency projected across the brain -- the faster a brain will lock on to the frequency being projected. He found his ELF generators are useful for relaxation, getting over jet lag, and, in one case, eliminating epileptic seizures in a 190-pound dog. Volunteers under Walonick's ELF fields only felt very subtle physical effects - tightness in the stomach or chest, metallic feeling in the mouth, ringing in the ears, and faint tingling sensations.
